the browner color of the frog, plus the blockiness of the spots, makes this a pickerel.

I'll also pay more attention next time and look for the coloration difference under the legs, now that I know how easily it is to confuse this frog with a Leopard Frog.

Yes, pickerels have pale tan borders, while leopards generally have pale green borders.
