Description

Our yellow lab spotted this little snake before we did, and we took a few pictures before releasing him in a safe location. He was about 8 1/2 inches long, dark beige with a black head, red underside, and an light tan ring around his neck.

Very cool! According to the ranges, this would be T. Planiceps. Was it in Temecula? Can you add a marker to the map so iNat will cross reference it with place checklists? You can obscure the location if it's sensitive. Thanks!

If you click 'agree' next to my ID and then click 'edit' and drag a marker on the map (set the geoprivacy settings at the bottom to 'obscured' and the exact location will be hidden within a 10km radius circle) then this observation will become 'research-grade' and will be the first observation of this snake from Riverside county:

It would be great if you could add a location. This is our only observation of this species!

Thanks - and also, if you agree with me that this is Tantilla planiceps rather than Tantilla hobartsmithi click 'agree' next to my ID and it will be the first research-grade observation of this snake on iNat!
