What

Tree Aeonium (Aeonium arboreum)

Observer

abgoynatural

Date

May 20, 2015

Description

This plant was about 14 inches tall and its stem was long and had the appearance of turtle skin, except light brown. The stem was so long that it was longer than the overall height of the tallest branch. There were 6 branches and the tallest one was about the 14 inches as mentioned before. The shortest branch was about 4.5 inches tall. The leaf-like petal seeming segments of the branches were bright green in the center and dark red purple as they progressed outwards. The really old seeming segments were a duller green and had lots of water stains on their waxy leaves. In fact all the leaf-petal segments had the same water stains except for the newly grown ones in the middle (light green). The edges of each petal-leaf segment had fine colorless hairs.

The tips of the plant were brimmed with the reddish-pink, even the older ones. The stalk of the plant had a potato-like skin appearance and it was very firm. The plant was about 8 inches tall and 16 inches wide. Most of the leaf-petals had at least one baby petal in its center.

This plant was about 21 inches tall and had white flowers. Each flower had two frilly petals, one on top of the other. Inside the flowers there were 4 pollen sprigs ending with yellow nectar. There were clumps of buds and leaves every half inch or so along the stalk. When I touched and felt the plant I had its scent on my hands. It had about 13 branches. The flowers appeared every 3rd ring of leaves and buds.

Observer

Date

May 15, 2015

Description

The tree was about 8.5 inches tall and the taller leaves were on top instead of the bottom like other plants I've seen before. The longest leaf it had was about 3.5 inches and the smallest leaf was about an inch long. The tree was growing between some rocks but it had enough soil for it. The soil looked good enough for bugs to roam around it such as centipedes and small flies. The trees leaves had some small holes and tears but otherwise it looked pretty fine.

Description

These are edible, onion-like plants that grow in moist soil. The height ranges from about 0.75 inches to 14 inches. Some of the scallions had white, flat, tips; but that was a result of them regrowing after being chopped off to be cooked. The bottom of the stalks are white, faintly green. The bottoms are also striped, but faintly. There was a maximum of 4 onion tops (green area) and a minimum of 1 onion top.

Flowering Plants (Subphylum Angiospermae)

Observer

Date

Description

I see this plant a lot. I believe it's a weed because I used to garden with my mother and this plant would always grow back again and again. When I saw it it started out small, about 9.5 inches tall and reaches out to 6.5 inches wide. The leaf span was about 2.75 inches. Some times the weed would have small blue flowers.

The second time I observed it the plant was in March 16. The plant grew about 9 inches taller but the small flowers were not present.

The third time I viewed the plant was at night time. I think it grew some more but I am not sure how much. At night I think the position of the leaves changed. The leaf tilt was towards the wall, which makes me draw the conclusion that the angle of the leaves depends of where the sun is.

Marvel of Peru (Mirabilis jalapa)

Date

March 24, 2015

Description

These plants are bright fusha colored and they are 1.75 inches in diameter. They have 5 long stamens (nectar sprigs) coming out of the center that end in orange powder. The petals are actually connected although they look separate appear to look wrinkled. There are a lot of new flowers on this bush. The new ones look like a smooth twisted stretched flower. When the flowers are dead they get smushed, wrinkled, and dry; eventually turning black. The amount of flowers on the bush are mostly new blooms. The leaves are kind of heart shaped, some lighter or darker depending on how old that section of the plant is. The older the section the darker the leaf. The petals are connected but I think there are 5. The petals are also heart shaped.

Marigolds (Genus Tagetes)

Observer

abgoynatural

Date

March 24, 2015

Description

The Marigold bush was about 15 inches wide and 13 inches tall. It only had about 2 flowers and I thought it was almost dead because the leaves were almost brown and pretty light green with white spots in certain places. The flower was not done blooming yet so I thought the bush would last a bit longer. The leaf shape is jagged, thin, and has a small, colorless hair ending the tip of each point on the leaf. The bud's tip was purple blending into green as it progressed towards the stem. The flowers were bright orange. However there was a Marigold bush next to it that was definitely healthy.

Description

The cloves were thin and a soft green color. They had 3 heart shaped leaves giving it the impression that there were 6 leaves on the plant. I think the clovers were sick looking compared to other clovers I've seen before. They had red aphids on themselves, they did not move that much though. They grew in sprigs ranging from 5 to 20. The stems are green at the top and pink-red towards the bottom of the stem. They are about 3-4 inches tall.

Centipedes (Class Chilopoda)

Description

This centipede was about an inch long. It would move slowly with each leg moving individually. With its two striped antenna it would poke around the dirt that it was about to walk on as if checking to make sure it was safe. The antenna moved a lot faster than its legs. It pokes its front part into holes and then comes back out and continues to repeat the process until it goes under leaves, only to come back out again.

These colors eventually blemished into the bright orange color we see on the front. The leaves of the vine varied in size depending on how old the part of the vine was. The newer section had smaller, light green, soft leaves. The older parts had rough leaves that were a darker shade of green than the new leaves.
