Bobcat (Lynx rufus)Observer
alisaidiDescription
Scat. We think it may be bobcat scat. It was about 5 inches from the left end of the scat pieces to the right side. I should have put something down for scale, but we were moving on...

Red-shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus)Observer
alisaidiDescription
We heard this bird for a good 15 minutes, but couldn't get a look at it. Just when I had given up hope, it swooped over the trees behind us as we were looking for otters in the creek. It even turned and flew upriver right in front of us. The build up of anticipation made this a really satisfying moment.

Great-tailed Grackle (Quiscalus mexicanus)Observer
alisaidiDescription
I saw this black bird in a marsh area at 1:05 PM. I couldn't quite get a great picture of it, but I took several, so this will be a nice challenge. I didn't hear it make any calls. Don't get thrown by that whitish reflection on the water in some of the pictures - it didn't have a light colored breast. From my distance it appeared to be about the size of a Northern Mockingbird. I think it may be a Black Rail, but I'm not sure.

Great Horned Owl (Bubo virginianus)Observer
alisaidiDescription
This Great Horned Owl caught my eye when it flashed through the woods at Point Pinole in the early evening. It stayed put as I stalked up to it, and I soon learned why: it was on a kill of some fairly large bird. I'd like help IDing the dead bird - the coloring and tail bars make me think it is some kind of small raptor or a dove? Any ideas?

Green Garden Snail (Cantareus apertus)Observer
alisaidiDescription
This was smaller than a typical garden snail and very very yellow. I don't know if it is just a baby garden snail or something else. Hmmm.
