Description

The leafs are alternate, simple, from 15 to 30 cm long, roughly ovate in shape, with many lobes. The species is monoecious, the male flowers are yellow-green from 5 to 10 cm long, female flowers are green tinged in red appear as single, short spikes.The fruit is an acorns (nut) and they are quite large (over 3.5 cm) the mature season is late summer and fall. The bark of this oak is ashy gray to brown in color and quite scaly, but noticeable ridged vertically on large trees.

Description

The leaf are evergreen needles, 7 to 13 cm long, with 5 slender , flexible needles per fascicle. The color appear to be blue-green because of 3 or more glaucous lines of stomata. The species is monoecious, males cylindrical, yellow, in clusters near branch tips; females light green, tinged in red, at ends of branches. Cones are 4 to 7 inches long, cylindrical, with thick, rounded cone scales, very resinous, borne on a long stalk and maturing in late summer. The bark on the young trees, thin, smooth and gray-green with some light spotty patches; later becoming thick, reddish brown to gray-brown with prominent finely scaly, rounded.

Description

This perennial grass is 2-4' tall at maturity. It forms a stiff culm about 2-30" tall that is terete and glabrous. The leaf sheaths are light to medium green, longitudinally veined, and glabrous; dried brown remnants of older sheaths often persist at the base of the culm. The ligules are short-membranous and about 3 mm long. The culm terminates in a spike-like panicle.

Very common to find on the dunes.

I found this on my way to the beach, near to the parking lot.

Description

This perennial plant is from 60 cm to 150 cm and unbranched, except near the inflorescence. is a grouping of branched clusters, large for the size of the plant, corymbiform in shape, stalks of the cluster and the individual flowers are hairy. Each small flower has 6 to 13 fertile (pistillate) yellow ray flowers and a central disc The florets have 5 stamens with yellow anthers. The styles are branched with a triangular appendage on the tip of each branch. The bloom is from August to October.

Very common plant on the prairie next to the beach.

Description

This plant is an erect perennial shrub; the height is from 60 cm to 270 cm. The flowers are in a raceme, the color of them is white to pinkish, and they bloom from July to September. The fruit is juicy berry, blue-black color and once mature can be very toxic.

It is possible to find on the prairie next to the beach near to the houses and the presence is rare, I only saw 3 or 4 plants of the specie.
