Solitary bird, on south side of bank, in front of dairy.
Had never seen one before, knew it was not a little black shag, came home and identified it via NZ Birds Online.
Photos aren't brilliant, but bird was entirely black other than yellow bill and surrounds. A large bird about the same size as a pied shag.
There is apparently one that frequents between Avondale and Bower bridges, but this was much further upriver
