What

Western Red-backed Salamander (Plethodon vehiculum)

Observer

avatargrove

Date

November 4, 2012

Description

Small salamanders ~5cm in length from snout to vent. White -speckled dark grey/black underbelly with a muddy-orange to orange/red stripe running down the back. "Runs" in a way that it looks like it is slithering with its body moving from side to side in an "S" pattern.
I found 4 under rotten logs and one just scurrying on the surface. I was observing them for a school field project.
