I have no way of confirming if this is the same pair I startled earlier at the bridge, but further up the trail, a pair of hooded mergansers had settled on the brook. Spooked by my curiosity, this pair took flight as well, captured in this video: https://youtu.be/cYmHz3fD8MI

I have been visiting a pair of hooded mergansers (or more than one pair) at the spot these were fleeing from over a period of several days this week. Upon my approach to the bend of the river today, this pair took off before I was able to see them close enough for an ID. About all I can see here is that they're ducks, unfortunately.
