Varied Thrush (Ixoreus naevius)Observer
bigpahunaDescription
Male Varied Thrush ( Ixoreus naevius ), he was reported by my wife as a bird she hadn't seen before in mid January, but I did not see him until late January.
Had to wait until Feb. 2, 2015 to get a good picture, as he is a very skittish bird.
What
Spotted Towhee (Pipilo maculatus)Observer
bigpahunaDescription
This beautiful bird was grazing on the seeds falling from the feeder above it's head.
The intense color of the eyes really caught my attention.
Fortunately for me, these birds are common here.

Missing DateDescription
Recently have only seen a couple of Juncos in the yard, but today there are more than a dozen males and females foraging on the ground under the feeders. Beautiful colors on these birds, great to see them again.
What
Columbian Black-tailed Deer (Odocoileus hemionus ssp. columbianus)Observer
bigpahunaDescription
One large male, as well as three younger and smaller males have taken up residence in my back yard during the day. They arrived on October 5, 2014 and lay in the same places everyday. The large male lays at the foot of the stairs to my back deck.
The large male is clearly the dominant animal because he is substantially heavier than the other males and has a larger rack.
All deer are beginning to show the transition from brown summer coat to grey winter coat.
