Date

Description

Found just outside of Markin Hall. It's entire head is black, with a white breast and a long tail about 30cm long. It's tail makes up over half of it's body length, helping me infer that this is a black-billed magpie.

What

Mule Deer (Odocoileus hemionus)

Date

Description

Found just outside of Markin Hall. The deer seems unfazed by the human activity as it is in a very populated area. It has large mule like ears and a black tipped tail, these details help to distinguish it from a white tailed deer. Lack of antlers suggest this mule deer is a female, and the visible rib cage shows that this deer may be under nourished.

What

Creeping Thistle (Cirsium arvense)

Observer

Description

This thistle was found near Anderson Hall. It's short, about 2cm high, and 4cm wide. Each leaf is flat, with spines protruding from each side. It doesn't have any flowers, due to the fact it's fall. The picture I took most closely resembles a young Musk thistle (Carduus nutans) or also known as a nodding thistle, due to its large flat leaves.
