Hanging on branch of red alder, with Spanish moss. Very full of water due to recent rain. At entrance to the bus loop at The Evergreen State College. Salal and sword fern nearby.

Description

Tall cedar with scale like "needles", bark long and stringy with red tint. Most branches high on trunk, but few thin branches lower (one in photo). Salal, sword fern and Tall Oregon Grape nearby. Near service road at parking lot B.

Description

Leaves are 1-1.5 inches long, about half an inch wide, shiny, dark green and finely toothed. They are alternating on red stem. Berries are dark blue-purple, and numerous in clusters. A few white-pink flowers are also visible. Whole plant about 5 feet tall, unknown width due to there being a small stand of the bushes. On a high traffic walking path between Sem II C and D. Common snowberry and salal are nearby.

Description

Very big tree, at least 30 ft. tall. 5-lobed leaves with distinct lobes, v-shaped samaras on the ground under the tree branches. Bark is dark brown, mosses on fallen branches nearby. There are young maples and other small trees, as well as quite a bit of blackberry or black raspberry surrounding the large tree. (At Nisqually Wildlife Refuge)

Description

Near the Western Chehalis Trail entrance at 67th St. Needles have two white lines along the underside, the cones have distinct trifid bracts. Quite a few female cones visible on the trees, near other Douglas Fir.

Description

On the Chehalis Western Trail in Lacey. Leaves turning red, but a few dark blue-violet berries still visible at the lower parts of the plant. Surrounded by tall grasses and some ferns. Height about 4 feet.
