Insects (Class Insecta)Observer
celebratealllife42Description
These are tiny, flying True Fly-like insects (smaller than my thumbnail) which rise from the tall grasses to congregate in mass numbers at twilight. They possess feathered antennae, some of these antennae being far larger and bushier than those of others... ...I am unable to identify these; so any ideas and/or identifications WILL be appreciated.

Black and orange-red alien caterpillar that the Internet is not yet aware of?
I have spent approximately one hour attempting to identify this caterpillar, but no images seem to show up on my search engine that display a caterpillar with this pattern. It was not found on a host plant, but curled up under a moist log.
Any ideas will be appreciated.

Asian lady beetle? The color (pale orange) and appearance of the spots (smaller and less than what I normally see in asian lady beetles around my neighborhood) indicate that it may be another species all together...
...ideas will be appreciated!

Found flying persistently about a solar-powered light in my family's storage shed.
Similar size to a larger tortricid leafroller moth, however, the color does not look even remotely similar.
Any ideas?

Spiders (Order Araneae)Observer

This relatively small spider was found hanging by a silken thread, decending from the edge of our roof.
It seemed to be familiar to me, yet the pale color and strange protrusion on the abdomen baffled me.
Any ideas?

Missing LocationDescription
After catching this relatively small jumping spider and feeding it every few days a bit over two weeks, I noticed that it was sitting atop what I assume to be a tiny egg sac this morning. This was after noticing that it was spending most of the previous day building a huge silken structure at the corner of its bag that was larger than its typical resting sacs...
...now she never moves from her egg sac, no matter how much food is offered to her...
...is this typical guarding instinct for a jumping spider?
What
Tiger Crane Flies (Genus Nephrotoma)Observer
celebratealllife42Description
Found quickly flying out of a morning glory bush. Was observed having obviously lost one of its legs at the time of capture. Was quite active once netted, perhaps even more so than other, larger crane flies that I have seen in my life.
The orange thorax and head perplexes me...
...any ideas?

Found in a small colony upon a kale plant. Curious as to whether the "tiny balls" in my photograph were eggs or minute drops of honeydew...

Often seen darting out of the hinges of the door of the obsolete wooden shed that lies in my family's backyard. They appear to be nocturnal, never seen at any time other than twilight or at night.

celebratealllife42Description
Found on a crevice located upon the trunk of an unidentified tree in the backyard. I thought that it was a soft scale of some kind, until I noticed that it was walking about with disproportionately small legs...
...mature scale insects don't often move, so let me know if anyone knows what this is.

New Zealand Burrowing Isopod (Sphaeroma quoianum)Observer
celebratealllife42Description
Found at the shoreline of a salt marsh near San Francisco bay, california.
Burrows under mud and rolls into a ball when threatened.
A naturalist working for the east bay regional park district was able to identify it as an aquatic isopod of some kind...
...unsure of the species. Any ideas?
