A Lynx Spider of the Oxyopes genus with an ant alate trapped between it's chelicerae.
This species is quite common in Sabah.

Description

A female Nygmia fumosa, looks almost similar to Nygmia semifumosa.
These type of moths are always seen with a bald patch on their thorax.
Dark rusty brown in color. A black dot on each of it's wings.

Brown-Striped Tree Frog Polypedates macrotis

Description

A brownish orange medium-sized frog in an artificial pond.
This frog is the common frog species around Aristo inn.
The pattern variation of the frogs here are spots. They are nocturnal.
Their tadpoles can survive in this distilled dirty pond water.
This frog species has been spotted climbing up to 4 meters above ground.
It was dark, very dark when I spotted this frog.
I had to track it by listening to it's croak and using flash in my photography to reveal it.

Description

A medium-sized Tussock Moth on a wall.
Light woody brown in color with dots on the wings.
Front hairy legs stretched in front while the other legs are not visible.
Tuft of hairs from it's abdomen is seen poking out from behind.

Description

A Tiger moth with transparent oval shapes on it's wings that distinguishes it from other moths.
The body is greyish brown in color. Black spots found on it's thorax.
Red legs and part of it's abdomen.
Can be mistaken as the commoner Amerila astreus that is also found in Borneo.

Pale greenish gray in color.

Description

A very common moth around here, This species can be easily mistaken as another similar species - Lyssa zampa. These moths are every abundant here, maybe it is their season.
Much more common than Lyssa zampa, I did not see any Lyssa zampa during my stay here.

Description

This large moth is resting on the wall of Aristo inn.
This species is endemic to Borneo.
Yellow in color, wings have wavy lines and "fake eyes".
Can be mistaken as Leopa megacore and the smaller Loepa sikkima species.

Description

A large wall jumping spider feeding on a moth as large as it.
Menemerus bivittatus is the only Menemerus species recorded in Borneo but this could be a sub-species or different species because her legs looks different from other Menemerus bivittatus.
They are the most common jumping spider on building walls because their grey color camouflages against white walls, especially dirty white walls.

A common hairy jumping spider of the Hyllus genus feeding on a praying mantis more than twice it's length under a large Ixora leaf. This species is one of the largest and heaviest Jumping Spiders in Sabah.

Description

Looks like a Phlegra jumping spider but so far no Phlegra species was recorded in Southeast Asia before. A tiny one, maybe still a juvenile.
Abdomen striped with dark and light shades of greyish violet.
Legs - orange brown. Head is also brownish orange in color with dark marks.
Possibly a ground-dwelling Salticid as it was found on a road pavement and the internet shows photographs of Phlegra spiders on the ground.
Another first-time-species-discovery for me, it was never found again by me afterwards.

Description

A shiny long Soldier beetle. Possibly a Themus kinabaluensis, T. durantoni and T. gracilipes as suggested by phumaengmai.
Also looks similar to the Indian T. lineatofemoralis.
Alive but inactive.
Shiny green forewings, orange abdomen and thorax.

Description

The common green planthopper species of Maliau Basin and found nowhere else in Sabah (I guess).
Have very distinctive wave-like patterns on it's wings.
A white dot can be seen on the center of each wing.
I saw one of these hopper on a Torch Ginger plant (Etlingera elatior).

A young centipede found at night on a wooden railing.
Blue segmented body with yellow antennae and legs.
You can see some raindrops on it's body in the second photo.
It was laying stationary until we began photographing it.

Description

Strange structure fused onto a railing in this UNESCO site.
Seems like a row of 23 eggs.
Most of the cells have holes, maybe the insect has hatched.
One cell is still closed, the hole is still sealed shut.

Description

A colorful lacewing from the net-winged insects family.
Head - light creamy yellow with a red "V" shape.
Upper Thorax - whitish with a big red mark.
Lower Thorax - light creamy yellow with segment edges black.
Abdomen - same colours as the lower thorax except that the segment edges are cream colored
while the middle part of the segments are black.
Long black antennae, semi-transparent brown legs, transparent wings with wing veins.
This is quite a rare lacewing species, I could not find this species again.
Identification is tough for this one.
Similar species are photographed from Sri Lanka and Singapore.

A Rhinocerous beetle.
This is a female, the female are smaller but much more common than the males.
They are armed with a hard exoskeleton and wings.
