What

Western Hardwood Sulphur Shelf (Laetiporus gilbertsonii)

Observer

Date

September 5, 2022 11:57 AM PDT

Description

Just want to make sure this is Chicken of the Woods. First time I've collected it. And it looks like it's at the perfect stage for eating.

"Mushrooms of the Redwood Coast" would call this Laetiporus gilbertsonii.

Not sure what hardwood it's growing on. A decorative in Larkspur's downtown. Leaves are ovate, waxy green, drought resistant in appearance, and grow evenly pinnate.

Pungent Slippery Jack (Suillus pungens)

Observer

Description

Suillus pungens? The guide says the cap's color is extremely variable. These look young, but all had ash gray colored caps. Pinkish buff droplets from pores also leads me to possibility of pungent slippery jack.
