McChord Airforce Base off of Exit 123. Looks like a Polytrichum species. Light green, thin needles. Tall, individuals with red individuals mixed into the middle of the patch. It looks as if the leaf points are going to be red! This might be junipernum but I was stunned by the color of some of these!

Description

Swan Creek in Puyallup. I'm curious about this moss because of its color. It was red-burnt orange. I'm wondering if it was a Oligotrichum species that is just different in morphology because of its habitat. It was growing as a mat near the water's edge. Very damp and shaddy areas. It does appear there is lamellae on the leaves. The leaves were sharp and there was a single costa seen. Has anyone seen this color before?
