What
Genus ApocarchesiumObserver
dseamerDescription
First found and named from Japan (2009) and then China and more recently from Germany, I found and described Apocarchesium from lake in suburban Sydney in 2002.
Apocarchesium is a colonial Peritrich whose stalk contracts spirally but unlike Carchesium, which may be descibed as arbuscualar, in Apocarchesium the zooids are located on a disk or nob at the end of it's stalk. The samples found in Sydney are completely different from all previous organisms and are regarded by Foissner as two new species.
