Missing DateDescription
Heard a single adult Couch's Kingbird (giving typical "pik pik pik pitweeeeer"), then saw this bird fly in to tree perching 15 feet above me. I had no binoculars but could make out the shape, color of breast and tail very well. It called twice at the SE corner of the Old McKinney Homestead. I then heard one calling two more times and saw it approximately 40 m NE of Old Grist Mill site; this bird (and others, incl. Carolina Chickadee, Northern Mockinbird) was mobbing a perched Cooper's Hawk.

Black Witch (Ascalapha odorata)Observer
farquharDescription
Adult male black witch moth (Ascalapha odorata) observed flying around backhouse at 4605 Evans Ave, Austin, Tx 78751. It was very tame, allowing me to place a tape measure next to it for size reference. When flushed it would fly, bat-like, only a few seconds before landing. It seemed to be less likely to flush when landing on dark backgrounds compared to lighter ones.
