What
Homogyne discolorObserver
felixerhardDescription
Unfortunately I don't have a picture of it, but the main characteristic to distinguish between H. discolor and H. alpina is, that H. discolor has a hairy-greyish underside of the basal-leaves.
What
Greater Plantain (Plantago major)Observer
felixerhardDescription
A very common herbaceous plant along roads and on meadows. Nevertheless, I never saw one this big (see beer for scale). Probably has to to with the high-nutrient soils of the danube's floodplain.
What
European Feather-Grass (Stipa pennata)Observer
felixerhardDescription
Beautiful gras which is usually to be found in dry, steppe-like areas.
In this region, it is usually more common in the dry plains of hungary and other east-european countries, a bit more eastern and southern than where i found it. But due to the dry and shallow grounds of the Lobau, it can be found there, too.
What
Cypress Spurge (Euphorbia cyparissias)Observer
felixerhardDescription
So common in that region but nevertheless to beautiful.

What
Green-winged Orchid (Anacamptis morio)Observer
felixerhardDescription
In the macro-picture, you can see Anacamptis morio in the center, amongst Ophrys sphegodes and Orchis militaris. 2015 has been a really good year for the orchid population on the Marchfeldschutzdamm, most obviously ;)
What
Burnt-tip Orchid (Neotinea ustulata)Observer
felixerhardDescription
This quite rare species is ironically growing on the levee, as it offers a dry and nutrient-poor habitat for the orchid to grow.
