Giant Sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum)Observer
heidigaissertDescription
This Giant Sequoia was planted on the island of Mainau in Lake Constance, Germany, in 1870.
King Wilhelm I. von Wuertthemberg had heard from the giant trees and had his gardeners order seeds from California. In Stuttgart, Germany, they received a lot of seeds in 1863 and by 1865 they had about 5,000 young trees - way too many for the "Wilhelma Gardens" in Stuttgart. Therefore, the plants were dispersed within Baden-Wuerttemberg.
