I was pleasantly surprised to come across this Monarch on this windy winter afternoon especially in light of recent news about their population crash out here in the west. I love how paying attention to this milkweed when walking the dog finally paid off.

California Newt (Taricha torosa)Observer

Rain, About 60 degrees F - saw dozens of T. torosa on the trails as well as even more in Bear Meadow which is currently a pond. Also witnessed amplexus with multiple pairs of newts (10-15 pairs) in the pond.
