Description

This tree is short. not cultivated. it was about 6 ft tall. the bark was REALLY smooth. I think it will die soon because it is under big trees with lots of leaves and it won't get enough light.

What

Norway Maple (Acer platanoides)

Observer

Date

September 5, 2015

Description

The Norway Maple, nicknamed "Crimson King", was brought over to America between 1750-1760. This particular one is 13-17 feet tall. It has simple leaves with opposite phyllotaxy. The leaves are toothed and lobed and the bark was not at all shaggy. Because of the bark and height. I'm guessing it is a very young tree. No more that 10-15 years old.
