Saw two individuals, a larger one missing the distal end of the tail and darker in color, and a smaller one with its tail complete and coloration more mottled. The stubbed tail one was displaying to the other by doing push-ups (in one of the pictures its on the up stance), first from a distance of about 30 cm, then approached and they were facing each other.
They were on large pieces of concrete in between the sea cliff and the ocean.

California Ground Squirrel (Otospermophilus beecheyi)

Observer

jorge4

Date

April 5, 2015 11:58 AM PDT

Description

Two juveniles of what seems to be California ground squirrels. They were in the shrubs between the sea cliff and the ocean; it seemed like they were gnawing on trash. They didn't seem too bothered by the proximity of people.
