After looking in books, I think this is a kind of asplenium fern (?) - a native and common to the Titahi Bay area.
It's growing under the house so not able to get a total photo, sorry.

Another fern under the back deck - a wee one - maybe a kind of button fern (I'm hoping this one's a NZ fern!)

Another mystery fern - this one under the back deck.
It seems different than the male fern under the front deck - glossy and a different underside.

This spider was bigger than appears in the photo.
This is the biggest wild spider I have ever seen in any country. Since heffing this one back into the back yard, we have never seen another like it.

I think I've got the ID right - this is an orchid invasion of our front section. Definitely not planted, these onion orchids are very welcome. They are the first native NZ plant to 'volunteer' on our section. Where did they come from? The wind is my best guess.

Male Fern (Dryopteris filix-mas)Observer

We have a few different ferns growing under the front and back decks - none of them were planted (one is under the house!) and we're curious to know whether they are native ferns, runaway exotic ferns, or even pest ferns.
I've rented books from the library to try and identify this one, but didn't come up with anything. Would be great to know.
