A slender, moist specimen, approx. 3 inches in length found among some dead leaves on the mixed hardwood forest floor after a 1 inch rain had fallen. Unusually warm temperature of 56 degrees F on this January 4 date. Small blue flecks along the length of its body.
Not sure about this ID, so feedback welcomed!

Gray Treefrog (Hyla versicolor)Observer

Gray tree frog on a window pane at night exhibiting the variability of color that is characteristic of Hyla versicolor. The light colored patch under the eye and the orange colored patch under the rear legs are characteristics of this species. The photo of the underside of the frog shows the extent of the orange color on the hind legs. Many of these frogs can be heard calling near our pond every year in the spring.

For the last couple of years in late summer these caterpillars have consumed most of the leaves on these small paw paw trees. The first picture shows one inside the leaf roller 'cocoon' I have opened up. It has a red streak down the back and both sides.

Black vulture on eggs in second story of abandoned outbuilding. This site has been used for nesting for at least 10 years, probably longer. They fledge in early July and stay around with parents for some weeks after that. We see them visiting their house occasionally through January and February.

Egg mass in small 6X12 ft artificial pool in natural setting, containing minnows, at least 8 spotted salamanders, many eastern newts, and multiple frog species. All amphibians found pool naturally. Fathead minnows were added to control mosquitoes and provide bait for fishing.
