What

Trembling Aspen (Populus tremuloides)

Observer

kpavlisich

Date

October 5, 2015

Description

Although hearing the leaves "tremble" atop this aspen is not the most unique attribute of this tree.If you taste it, (yes, bite the tree) you will encounter a bitter flavor as a result of quinine. Quinine is an alkaloid which has fever and pain reducing properties. When you think "aspen", think "aspirin".
