Range-- South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique, extending from the southwest arid biotic zone and eastward into southern savanna and grassland areas.

Habitat-- open and arid country; savannas and open plains with firm ground; live in dug burrows

Niche-- They dig holes for their group to hide in. This allows them to burrow when the weather gets cold; eaten by hyennas

Immune to scorpion stings.

10 different vocalizations have been identified to warn off predators.

Range-- southern part of Suriname (or Surinam), South America. Other species of poison arrow frogs live throughout tropical South America from Costa Rica to southern Brazil.

Habitat-- They live in the rainforest. They are said to be terrestrial but are usually near some water. They like a dark, moist environment.

Niche-- territorial, bold, and aggressive; have many unique features that help their tadpoles; eat crickets, termites, etc; Leimadophis epinephelus is one of few predators (snake) that can withstand the poison

Fun Fact-- They have 200 micrograms of poison in their body.. It would take 2 micrograms to kill a human

Range-- Mexico and Southern Guatemala

Habitat-- primarily tropical deciduous forests and thorn scrub forests, but are found in pine-oak forests. In the wild, the animals are only active from April to mid-November, spending about an hour per day above the ground.

Niche-- uses its extremely painful and sometimes fatal bite to fight of predators; feeds mostly on bird and reptile eggs; eaten by coyotes and raptors

Niche-- eats grasses, forbs (any herb that is not a grass), cacti and other succulents, sedges, fruits and leaves of bushes; long neck allows it to eat higher parts of plants; Wild cats, dogs, rats, goats, and pigs (all introduced). Throughout the peak of maritime travel, pirates and merchant sailors slaughtered the tortoises for food until few remained.
