What

Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus)

Observer

lmccracken

Date

February 9, 2009

Description

Driving up Rt. 10, a bald eagle flew right at my windshield. After seeing a face full of plumage that extended across the front of my car and the windshield, the eagle flew straight up and then left towards the river, missing my windshield in the few last seconds before impact (it had actually been over the front engine of my car). I stopped, shaken, but it seemed to be doing fine, sitting above me in the trees hunting whatever might come to the water below, as the trees bordered the river at this point. This was 3 or 4 in the afternoon.

North American River Otter (Lontra canadensis)

Observer

Date

Description

My nearest winter neighbor is a river otter. In the spring when the ice melts, one or two will sometimes eat lunch on the ice (usually two fish each) outside my dining room window. I think this is a sunfish, but I could be wrong. This was at 2 PM while I ate an upside down pineapple cake. The river is totally missing on the attached map.

A bald eagle was standing on the ice pulling apart some sort of animal it had caught. It must have been a bird or an animal as there was too much blood on the ice for it to be a fish (plus the water was iced over).

Observer

lmccracken

Date

April 16, 2014 01:00 PM EDT

Place

Marlow, NH (Google, OSM)

Description

Three female cowbirds played tag with my car as I drove down the driveway. I went very slowly. They were on the ground. One went safely to the woods and the other two took turns flying 2 to 10 feet ahead of my car, eventually moving to the side of the driveway and out of the way.
