Common Guelder-Rose (Viburnum opulus var. opulus)Observer
lrichieDescription
This variety of viburnum was tricky. At first I did not recognize it. This variety of Viburnum opulus is cultivated for its sterile flowers. It makes a ball that looks really neat, but is an evolutionary dead-end for the species as it has no means of reproduction.

lrichieDescription
Growing in the UW greenhouse in the tropical section! This plant is grown everywhere in Indo-Malay region as almost every part of it is used. Wood for construction (easily springs back), the fruit for fried crackers and soups, and small branches apparently make musical instruments. It's also discovered that the extracts can be used as flavor enhancers and food preservative. Additionally there is potential for developing a drug from cancer from the plant.
