Melon-headed Whale (Peponocephala electra)Observer

Na manhã de 08 de abril de 2018 um golfinho-cabeça-de-melão (Peponocephala electra) medindo 2,3 metros encalhou com vida na praia de Jacaraípe, no município da Serra - ES. Cidadãos mantiveram o animal na água, enfrentando a rebentação, com o orifício respiratório desobstruído, até que o socorro chegasse. Outros golfinhos, provavelmente da mesma espécie, rondavam o local, possivelmente por solidariedade. Uma equipe do Projeto de Monitoramento de Praias da Petrobras, composta por técnicos do CTA Meio Ambiente e do IPRAM foi ao local para tentar auxiliar o animal, que foi sedado e transferido em uma caminhonete para uma enseada com águas mais tranquilas, a menos de dez minutos de distância. Infelizmente o golfinho não resistiu e foi a óbito no início da tarde. O escore corporal era bom, e o animal apresentava cicatrizes antigas na boca e de mordidas de tubarão-charuto no corpo, sem relação com o óbito. Durante o atendimento o animal expeliu secreções pelo orifício respiratório e vomitou, sugerindo um quadro infeccioso (e é por isso que os banhistas, principalmente os idosos e crianças, não devem se aproximar muito nesses casos). A carcaça foi encaminhada para exame necroscópico para tentar elucidar a causa do óbito. Agradecemos profundamente aos cidadãos que se dedicaram por várias horas para ajudar este animal e uniram forças conosco durante a transferência.
