Lesser Scaly Anole (Anolis uniformis)Observer
mfrodriguezDescription
These anoles where very prominent. During the hike to Antelope Falls I saw at least 20 of them. The like to hide in the leaf litter and in branches generally no more than a foot off the ground. They would jump when they felt threatened, and could jump at least 2 times their body length.
What
Brown Basilisk (Basiliscus vittatus)Observer
mfrodriguezDescription
On a branch in a thin strip of brush that was about 4.5 meters thick and 400 meters long towards the coast. The male basilisk was unmoving and seemed to be sunning until we startled it by getting too close. He moved to a lower branch (upon which it is pictured) and would bob his head up and down about once per second when he saw we were not moving away. After about a minute of this, he stopped bobbing its head and stood unmoving on its branch for 10 minutes, head turned sideways but making sure we were in sight, until I shifted. The movement startled him, and he immediately dropped to the floor and scurried under litter and roots.
