Diminutive blechnum fern growing in boggy grassland underneath a manuka tree (Leptospermum scoparium). Creeping rhizome.

Matt forming Celmisia species growing in alpine grassland. Underside of leaf dense with white felt-like tomentum.

Colourful herb up to 1 meter tall. Stems covered in semi-abrasive bristles. Flowers multicoloured (pink and purple). Growing along the edges of the road.

Bog loving sedge with feathery fertile material. Found growing in poorly drained bog alongside Drosera species.

Small reddish-green fleshy herb. Conspicuous white flowers. Growing amongst patches of snow totara (Podocarpus nivalis) and Chionochloa species.

Small sprawling herb growing in rocks and other low statured herbaceous plants. Coriaceous green leaves. Flowers aromatic.

Tall abrasive Aciphylla species with large inflorescences over 1.5 metres tall. Growing in tussock grassland at about 860 metres A.S.L. Leaf stipules large between 15 cm - 30 cm.

Spiny tree over 2 metres tall growing beside Dracophyllum scrub and manuka (Letospermum). Axillary spines between 8 mm and 20 mm. No fertile material present.
