My property backs up to Randall Mill Park Natural Area (40 undeveloped acres). This guy made it into my front yard, and was headed for the street. I moved him about 200 yards back into the natural area.

I found about 30 holes in an area about 50' in diameter. The holes ranged in size from maybe 8" across and deep to 24" across and deep. The holes were made between March 5th and March 22nd. There are feral hogs in the area, but these holes did not look like typical hog rooting activity. None of the holes appeared to be deep enough to serve as a den. A TPWD biologist suggested maybe a badger, although I have seen no badgers in the 20+ years I have been on the property. There have been 3 active game cameras at water troughs and they have captured pictures of coyotes, fox, raccoons, ringtails, bobcats, porcupines and skunks, as well as feral hogs. These holes don't look like any of the dens I have seen before. I am puzzled by the large number of holes within such a small area. I could see nothing in the holes (e.g., roots, etc) that may have prompted an animal to dig. I would appreciate hearing possible explanations for this strange activity. Thanks

What
Great Plains Ratsnake (Pantherophis emoryi)Observer
shipmanc99Description
Snake was uncovered when clearing some prickly pear cactus. I'm afraid I disturbed his hibernation due to the continued cool temps. Snake was probably 30" long and almost an inch in diameter at widest part.

Thin (maybe 1 1/4" across largest part of body) and long (at least 6') snake. Appears to be living under the shed as I saw only its head sticking out several days ago.

I see this and other lizards like it in my yard fairly often. We always called them tree lizards. Was wondering exactly what species it really is. Thx
