Empidonax Flycatchers (Genus Empidonax)Observer
somanybirdsDescription
These are pictures of three different empids I saw all in the same vicinity. One is a juvenile (the last two pics), and was associated with the second adult pictured. Least and willow flycatchers have been the most recently seen empids, according to eBird, but acadian is also a possibility. I was pretty sure I heard the song of a least, but I am not very familiar with eastern flycatchers' vocalizations, as I live in California.

Two more gull pictures from Pillar Point in Half Moon Bay. When Thayer's, Herrings, and Glaucous-wingeds start mixing in with the Westerns and Californias, it's hard to feel sure on id's. Thanks!

Lesser Goldfinch (Spinus psaltria)Observer
somanybirdsDescription
The two on the right are lesser goldfinches, but I'm wondering about the one on the left. This picture was taken just below the stand of cypress trees where a Lawrence's goldfinch pair is known to have nested this year near the top of Windy Hill OSP in Portola Valley. Could that be one?
What
Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos)Observer
somanybirdsDescription
These ducks were on the pond at Five Brooks Ranch along with mallards and wood ducks. The bills on these look almost canvasback-like. Mallard X Canvasbacks?

Purple Finch (Haemorhous purpureus)Observer
somanybirdsDescription
Okay, I know this has to be a house or a purple finch, but that beak is huge, and his chest has no streaks. Thoughts? There's no way this is a Cassin's, right? Seen at Lake Lagunitas.
