There was a large herd of elk that were walking through a farmer’s field in the snow with sage brush fields surrounding them. Some of them seemed to be feeding and others were just walking.

We noticed a large collection of small sticks with a large amount of feces tucked up underneath a large rock.

They were feeding in a farmer’s field when we drove by. I identified them by their location and by the coloration on their stomachs. The horns were also a good clue.

This is the type of the majority of deer in our area. They are larger and do not have as light of colored rump as white tailed deer do.
They were on a walkway between two fields. One had sagebrush and the other was a farmer’s field.

It was standing and watching for predators. The small burrow, small body shape and dark tan hair color was enough to identify it.
