A butterfly with orange, yellow, and black wings. Found resting on an ice plant near the bluffs. At first glance, I mistakenly identified it as a monarch butterfly.

A small snake with a gray head and a red/black back with a single yellow line running through. Discovered after hearing a slithering/hissing noise in the grass. Fled when another person walked by talking on her phone.

A team of ducks with brown feathers, orange bills, and black stripes at their eyes. They were swimming in runoff water, ducking their heads beneath the surface to feed on the organisms growing there.

Small black bird with red eyes and sides, spotted wings, and a white belly. Was found quickly hopping around an empty campsite and pecking at the remains of food.

Tall stems with beautiful pink flowers. They grow in groups that are scattered along the trail; groups are usually isolated from others and some are hidden pretty well by other plants. It leaves what looks like a circle of death where it stands.

Grows low to the ground. Succulent leaves are present, but the flowers had not yet bloomed. Abundant on the bluffs beside the sea and along the coastal trail.

Cottontail rabbit with brown fur and pale bellies. Very cute, but extremely shy and cautious, running away at the smallest movement; I found it best to search for them in the distance instead of close by. Great hiders; found in bushes and in the grass.
