Description

One colony on acidic upland clay Piedmont soil, overstory of Pinus taeda, Acer rubrum, and Juniperus virginiana. Colony on both sides of dirt road. A few scattered plants not far away. Conspicuous at this time of year due to persistent dark red and green leaves in false whorls. Green leaves still sweet, green apple flavor. Note chambered pith.
