Description

The Western white barred threefin is a common small 2-3 cm fish on Elizabeth reef. It inhabits the small limestone caves that are adorned in gorgonians, sponges and tunicates. The black, white and orange striped males are easy to see. They perch and then quickly move to another perch when approached too closely. The females are a dappled green. The area is sheltered from the waves and is 1- 2 m deep.
