Expressly examining Cliff Swallow colonies for Cave Swallows. I discovered the State's first nesting in adjacent Comanche County 2 years ago. Saw Cave Swallows along this HWY March 2012 at the Kiowa/Comanche Co. line but could not confirm at the time. Today went looking at likely prospects. The second site hosted at least 6 (possibly 12) birds among 80 Cliff Swallows. A dozen old/used nest structures within culverts consistent with cave Swallow although none in use a present. These birds were only recent arrivals in response to heavy area rains 17 April.
