According to the New Zealand Tree Register this is the second tallest tree in New Zealand.

In 2009 it was measured at 72.1m.

"An extraordinary tree that towers above the 35m high Pinus radiata plantation it is situated amongst. Known as the Barrington Gum, it was named after the former farm that the area was known as in the 1870's. This tree is currently the second tallest tree recorded in New Zealand.
