Description

Rio Grande Nature Center State Park, Visitor's Center pond, Albuquerque, Bernalillo Co., New Mexico, USA.

Male (note the long fore-claws). This introduced species has been established at the Nature Center ponds probably since shortly after this state park opened in the early 1980s. Red-eared Sliders are native in New Mexico in the Pecos and Canadian rivers and introduced (via released pet-trade animals) elsewhere in the state.
