Description

Male Brachythemis contaminata

Same morning at the female Trithemis aurora shots [http://www.inaturalist.org/observations/3316203] ...I guess I was in an unwarranted hurry because these look even more shit aesthetically. I feel they still have value for reference but as a photographer first and wannabe amateur entomologist second it's annoying.

I think I just got too excited at the amount around me and tried to hurry so I could ride the motorbike to a nearby waterfall before it got too hot. Four years later this still irks me so hopefully learned that lesson.

I chased this little guy around for a while and almost fell in an ephemeral pond with steep banks while leaning over trying to get him.

Check out the cool frontal thoracic pattern he is sporting (third image); it's a warning to predators that he's radioactive. ;) Not really but it kind is similar to that symbol. I can't recall seeing anything like that before on another species.
