Description

Madeira wall lizard
(Lacerta dugesii)
Sao Sebastiao,
Terceira Island,
Azores,
Portugal
15 July 2013

This species is common and widespread all across the island of Terceira. This is apparently the only lizard species to be found on this island.

We spent a week on the island of Terceira in the Azores from 15-22 July, 2013. The Azores are a group of 9 small islands owned by Portugal, about 900 miles out in the Atlantic from Portugal. The plant and animal fauna is basically European, but there are many introduced plants I am told. The island of Terceira is approx. 10 X 18 miles in size with two cities and many towns and about 56,000 inhabitants.
