Description

Juvenile male Diplacodes trivialis

鳳茹 (FengRu) and I took a trip to Vietnam to explore Ho Chi Minh City and then look for dragonflies and anything else at Cat Tien National Park. It was very dry but this was the only time I could go so we went anyway.

There wasn't a lot going on in terms of dragonflies during the time we were there but we saw some cool species...Vestalis gracilis, Neurobasis terminata (I think), Diplacodes trivialis and I think one or two other species that I couldn't get shots of and didn't have a handle on. We saw lots of other irrelevant wildlife (jk, it was really cool).

Diplacodes trivialis was found in multiple locations we visited at the park. Typical behavior was to inhabit a perch low to the ground/on the ground and be very flighty. Reminiscent of the behavior/style of Erythemis simplicicollis back in the Western Hemisphere but not as aggressive of a predator.

This is a very common but beautiful Southeast Asian dragonfly. The male turns an amazing light blue color and has tealish eyes which look very cool against the white face.
