Western Painted Turtle (Chrysemys picta bellii), hatchling or juvenile, being preyed on by an American Kestrel (Falco sparverius) at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, Socorro Co., New Mexico, USA. The turtle was possibly out sunning when taken by the kestrel, although was a cool day (about 40 deg F).
