What

Rand's Eyed Silkmoth (Automeris randa)

Observer

billreynolds

Date

August 1998

Description

Automeris randa -

Peloncillo Mountains, Hidalgo County, New Mexico, USA

Automeris randa (Series)
Some specimens were collected at lights (August 1998) & Some were reared Ex. ovum wild female (same trip)
Host: Quercus sp. (ecl. June 1999)

NOTE: Locally abundant with a relatively limited flight window! It has been my experience, this moth can be seasonally common; however, doesn't seem well represented in collections. To the best of my knowledge, there are only a few localities where it can be collected along the Arizona-New Mexico border.
