Description

The Brazilian Brown Bat (Eptesicus brasiliensis) is the gift that keeps on giving. Averaging 8 grams (.03 oz), these little bats are voracious hunters of flying insects, and they have the tools (teeth and jaws) necessary to dispatch some of the toughest kinds. A closely monitored colony of only 150 Brown Bats (Eptesicus sp.), close relatives of this species, was calculated to consume approximately 800,000 beetles, 158,000 leaf-hoppers, and 335,000 stink-bugs in a single year (Kunz et al., 2011). This species is uncommon in forested areas on both Trinidad and Tobago (Trinibats)
