Description

A large solifugid (~450mm) with no claws on leg 1, unsegmented tarsus on legs 2 and 3, and a 3-segmented tarsus on leg 4. The species is Ammotrechula texana (Kraepelin, 1901a: 112, fig. 83).

It was found at night when the temperature was ~88 degrees). It was moving in the middle of the road and responded aggressively when it was caught. It sought cover underneath my shoe and held the tube with its pedipalps as it bit the edge repeatedly.

It was kept in the tube three days before it died, curling up as it did so.
