Description

California condor (Gymnogyps californianus) became extinct in Mexico in 1939 and in 2002 a reintroduction program began to bring them back thanks to a joint program between the US and Mexican governments. The San Diego Zoo has been working closely with SEMARNAT in breeding and reintroducing the species into its natural habitat. The species is protected by both US and Mexican legislation and international agreements.
