Bighorn Institute

The purpose of this project is for Bighorn Institute to collaborate with citizen scientists for the conservation of the endangered Peninsular bighorn sheep in the Coachella Valley. We would like the public's participation in gathering bighorn sheep observation data by logging their sightings of wild bighorn with our project, particularly from Palm Springs to La Quinta. This information will assist us as we look at the population size and demographics of the local bighorn as recovery continues. It will also allow us to see if there is habitat expansion or historic use of habitat. For years, we have received reports of bighorn sheep throughout the valley and this project gives folks a forum to log their sightings themselves, as citizen scientists, rather than just report them to us. less ↑
