About Bighorn Institute

Bighorn Institute is a privately funded nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation of the world's wild sheep through research and education. Our focus is on the endangered Peninsular bighorn sheep in southern California, specifically, in the Coachella Valley. We have a captive breeding and wild population augmentation program and have released 126 bighorn into the wild since 1985. We have long-term ecological studies in the San Jacinto and Santa Rosa Mountains and track the wild bighorn population from Palm Springs to La Quinta.
