Ensorfest '24 BioBlitz will be a baseline for a restored natural prairie

The land that comprises the present Ensor Park and Museum was originally purchased from the State of Kansas in 1875 by Bill McCabe. In 1909, the property was purchased by the Ensors. Although we don't know exactly how the fields of this property might have been used in the early days, we do know that for many years the Ensors used them to provide brome hay and pasturage for their dairy herd. The City of Olathe has now embarked on a plan to establish a native prairie on 32 acres of the museum property. On May 11, 2024, the day of Ensorfest '24, the brome and other plants on those 32 acres will have been largely removed. City workers will sow the native prairie seed mix soon after that. Thus, the Ensorfest '24 BioBlitz will provide a much-needed baseline, "the starting point," of a native prairie that will be enjoyed and appreciated by all future visitors. We invite you to help us establish the 2024 baseline and then to come back again in years to come to see how it matures. See you soon! Marty Peters, Secretary, The Olathe Ensor Foundation
